What is an interface?
An interface is a software unit (for example written in C++ or JAVA) which allows 2 systems to communicate each other. The interface provides the actual coupling of both the systems.

Why use an interface?
The use of an interface is often the consequence of the wish or the necessity of coupling two systems to each other. An interface is therefore not a stand-alone item but forms an integral part of a total solution.
