What are 0800/0900/088 Services ?
As a rule, 0800/0900/088 numbers are known as service numbers. Inbound calls can be received and routed to any destination in the world. A service number is used to improve an organisation's accessibility, to provide information or for complaint handling, for example.  0800-numbers are toll-free for callers (except for prepaid callers). The call costs will be charged to the owner of the 0800 number. On the other hand, callers may have to pay different rates to call 0900 numbers. The rates vary from € 0.01 to € 0.80 per minute or € 0.35 to € 1.30 per call. A rate can be selected depending on the type of service associated with the 0900 number. 088 numbers are national business numbers. An organisation with 20 establishments spread all over the country can notify one single, centralised 088 number that all callers can call. A national, per-minute rate applies to 088 numbers, between the local and the inter-local rate (the exact costs depend on the caller's subscription-type).

0800/0900/088 numbers offer organisations the possibility of organising and sending their incoming call traffic by linking a tariff to the number. An 0800 number is toll-free for the caller, and thus callers will be more inclined to call than if calls were payable. An 0800 number is therefore useful when the owner of the number benefits from the maximum possible number of callers. If the owner does not directly benefit from the maximum number of callers, or wishes to earn from the callers (for example, stock market information), there is an option to link a higher tariff to the number.
